"When I first discovered this idyllic river, lack of time & impending weather didn't allow me to explore it properly. So with fine weather forecast, I returned for another attempt, but reaching this point in fading light late afternoon, conditions were unsuitable. I took my chances 2 days later & arrived to find the river bed glowing in the early morning light - I couldn't believe it! Never have I seen such dense & lush bush anywhere, the Ureweras contains the largest area of virgin "untouched" forest in the north island.”
